People Want Me To Vote For This Guy?!

Obama had outlined many of the proposals offered Wednesday during appearances in Iowa last December.

Goals set for students
“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” he said Wednesday. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

He said he would make federal assistance conditional on school districts establishing service programs and set the goal of 50 hours of service a year for middle school and high school students.

For college students, Obama would set the goal at 100 hours of service a year and create a $4,000 annual tax credit for college students tied to that level of service.

Let me get this straight. On top of funding a new national police force at the same level as the military (which makes up over 1/3rd of our national budget), he wants to force middle school and high school students to work on whatever “service” programs the federal government thinks is apropriate.

1. We do not need a police level of that magnitude. Their are already departments that are having a hard time finding qualified people to become police officers. Plus, what the hell would he use this police force for?
2. How will he pay for this? The budget for the military already makes up over 26% of the budget of US government (source: Form 1040 instructions for 2007). Either entitlement programs (welfare, Medicaid, Medicare, etc.) would have to be drastically cut, or taxes would have to be massively increased.
3. I will say, I like the idea of giving a $4000 tax credit to someone who has volunteered over 100 hours in a year. But, when I was a college student, this would not have helped me much (if at all). And, that was over 13 years ago.

This national police proposal has made me decide, I will not vote for him and will campaign to stop him. In my opinion, Barack Obama is a danger to the freedom of every man, woman, and child in the USA.
