Venezuela sends tanks to its border with Columbia

Summary: Columbia killed a FARC leader in Ecuador with an airstrike. In response, Hugo Chavez has sent tanks to the Columbia/Venezuala border.

Background: FARC is a Columbian communist rebel group with close ties to cocaine trafficking. Ecuador borders Columbia to the west and south. Venezuela borders Columbia on the East.

My Take:This might be the beginnings of Hugo Chavez’s territorial ambitions.  The Venezualan economy is in the tank due to his economic policies. And, there is nothing like a good war to get people’s minds off of their economic woes.
