Range Report: H&R Handirifle 223 Bull Barrel

Today, my wife and I went to an indoor range and I tested my new H&R Handirifle. I have the 223 with a bull barrel. I have placed a Shooter’s Edge 3-9×40 scope on it.

I was looking to try a variety of bullet weights from 45 to 62 grains. Unfortunately, the 62 grain rounds I brought (Silver Bear soft points) have an iron or steel core (by magnet tests) and couldn’t be used at that range. The other ammo I tried was Wolf 55 grain hollow points, Monarch 55 grain soft points and Remington UMC 45 grain hollow points. I deided to first sight in at 25 yards. My first shot was very pleasing, dead center of the bulls-eye. Though, that proved to be a flyer.

I was getting good groups after that and soon had my scope sighted in. I then moved the target to 50 yards (max for this indoor range). Below are the results I got with the different ammo:

I think the hollow points (Wolf and Remington) worked best. I think I am going to pick up some higher quality ammo and see how well it performs. I did learn something. Shooting a single shot rifle really slows down your ammo consumption. I went through about 50-60 rounds in two hours.
