No! Bad movie studio! Bad!
Red Dawn was a classic culmination of the USA’s cold war fears. It showed what conservative’s in America feared would happen if we did not face and defeat communism. Now, there really isn’t any looming communist threat. The Soviet Union is gone. China’s economy is so intertwined with the USA’s that it would be suicide for either side to go after the other. There are only two true communist states left in the world, Venzuela and Cuba. Venezuela has to use the bogeyman of the USA to prop up the failing government. And, Cuba will probably see capitalist reforms in the next 10-20 years. Cuba would probably see reforms even sooner if we opened trade with them. There is no real communist bogeyman to invade the USA. So, the premise just wouldn’t work today.
The biggest threat to the USA today is militant Islam. Yet, in the politically correct world we live in, a film which has the USA falling to militant Islamist forces will not be made.
