Texas Legislature Looking at Limiting Drug Seizures

The Texas Senate wants to stop law enforcement from searching drivers just seize their cars and money. As it stands now, they can choose to seize your property and you have to prove that your property was in no way involved in the drug trade. This can be a very expensive process. There are some Texas counties where a significant portion of their law enforcement budget is coming from these seizures.

I have always felt that taking someone’s property without a trial finding that person guilty is wrong. We need to stop the practice of seizing property because an individual considers the property guilty of a crime. Property can not be innocent or guilty, only people can commit crimes.
