A little political/economics griping

Today, U.S. House Democrats proposed an $826 Billion economic recovery package.

I broke out the calculator and did a little math. If you make the assumption that the population for the USA is 310 million, this comes out to ove $2600 for every man, woman, and child in the U.S.A.. Can you imagine what would happen if they just gave the money to people instead of filtering it through the programs and tax cuts?
