Some interesting thoughts
I haven’t seen it yet, and now I really don’t want to watch Wall-E.
WALL-E questions
by Egregious Charles
If the gender roles of the robots in Disney’s WALL-E were reversed, if EVA were male and WALL-E were female, wouldn’t EVA be violent, arrogant, abusive, and dismissive? (Think of the scene where EVA crushes one of WALL-E’s eye cameras, and EVA’s reaction after he demonstrates the ability to replace the camera unit.) Wouldn’t female WALL-E be pathetically cooperating in her victimization, because of her love for male EVA based on nothing more than his looks? If you have little girls, would you want them to watch it in that case? If you think about it that way, do you still want any of your kids to watch it?
I’ve been noticing how prevalent this kind of thing is since reading “Self-Made Man” by Norah Vincent (which I recommend) and starting to read Dr. Helen (aka the Instawife).
