Surprise Asteroid Makes Near Miss of Earth

This past weekend, an asteroid passed within 40,ooo miles of the earth. This is 1/7 the distance between the Earth and the Moon. If it had hit, it would have had the force of a nuclear bomb. We spotted it when it was three days from the Earth.

The asteroid is in an orbit where it will make repeated passes at the Earth.
