No Child Left Behind Holds Children Back

A new study argues that the nation’s focus on helping students who are furthest behind may have produced a Robin Hood effect, yielding steady academic gains for low-achieving students in recent years at the expense of top students.

Here’s a simple fact. 50% of all children are below average. We need to realize that some children are not suited for college, and this is OK. There is nothing wrong with becoming a good plumber, mechanic, chef or any other occupation. I personally love the German system of education. When the student reaches a certain point in their education (the end of middle school), they are given an aptitude test. Those who have an aptitude for college are sent on a college prep track. Everyone else is given the option of the fields they show an aptitude for. By the time they are 18, they have been trained to a level where they can actually earn a living.
