A True Hero and Adventurer Has Died
Charles Fawcett a true hero and adventurer has died. To give you an idea of his life, despite recurring bouts with TB, he did the following:
- Worked tranp steamers in the 1930s travelling to the far east through the Panama Canal.
- Learned jazz trumpet from Louis Armstrong
- In 1939 joined the Polish army to fight the Nazis
- Worked in the French Ambulance Corps
- Rescued allied prisoners from the Nazis in Paris
- In 1944 was part of the US Ambulance Corps in Italy
- In 1945 joined the French Foreign Legion in fighting to liberate France
- Married six Jewish women in three months to get them into the USA
- 1948, fought the communists in Greece
- 1956, he helped rescue refugees from Hungary
- 1959 he helped rescue people trapped by fighting in the Belgian Congo
- Acted in 25 films
- In 1979 he joined Afghan rebels in fighting the Soviets
