A Salute to A Fallen Warrior
Godspeed Corporal Sean Stokes – The Way to Remember A Marine
Some of what Corporal Stokes an honored hero:
- After being busted to private and deployed to Iraq, he straightened up and became a credit to his country.
- He preferred to be on point, because he was good at it and he could save the lives of his fellow Marines.
- After being wounded in the lower legs in an ambush, he refused to be evacuated while he provided suppressive fire. This allowed an adjacent unit to destroy the ambushers.
- He chose to re-enlist and said he was eager to redeploy with his unit.
- His fellow Marines called him a “quiet warrior.”
- He died doing what he preferred to do, pulling point. This time as part of his battalion commander’s personal security detachment.
“Marines like Stokes have many names. His name might not have been King Leonidas, but he would’ve filled the first ranks of ‘The 300.*’ Marines like Stokes are the closest thing to legend we have.”
